I've started the analysis of the demographic data I've been collecting on my 'Who Should I Work For' self-assessment. See the graph below. Over 12,000 people have taken the assessment and I have demographics on more than 3,000. Here's one of the first striking results: Men and women postbacs (graduate students and postdocs) differ significantly in the kinds of employment they are seeking.

I recently received a request from a young friend for help negotiating a new salary and thought I would share my advice. Here's the situation: he's very happily employed in a small company. His work is very visible to the company's clients and has earned industry-wide respect. He likes the people he works with (and works for), and finds it easy to communicate with them on professional and personal levels.
