It's not necessarily about you

It may not be about you.  I said earlier that any connection to the company is an edge.  Maybe they went with a guy who worked there as an intern.  Or the daughter of the guy in Accounting.  Or the friend of someone hired last year.  Maybe they promoted someone from within (pretty unlikely with an entry-level job, though).  All these things help to lower the uncertainty of taking on a new person.  Even if you are a little more qualified than the insider, they are still going to go with the insider.  What can you do? Become the insider, like I said before.  You need to use all your connections to get that advantage.  Then it will be some other poor schnook who didn't get the job when you're hired.
